A typical day at work involves…

The General Manager's role is to maximize the communication between the various individuals and departments to streamline and knit together the various elements which result in the delivery of the projects, on time and budget. Key to the role is an open and flowing dialogue with all stakeholders in the development including shop floor exposure and interaction.

I learnt my trade by…

Having worked in both large international companies within the corporate sector and small SME's including engineering within the aviation sector, I have learnt to refine my communication and interaction skills to match the environment that I have been working. No matter what the role that I have been undertaking, project management skills and application have been critical. Whether this has been developing a Business Development campaign for a software package or changing a critical component within a gas turbine engine, a thorough and diligent plan has been vital. Aside of my day to day work, having worked for a period as a Commercial Yacht Skipper, the skills associated with running a vessel have parallels which can be drawn on within the normal working environment.

What's the best thing about working for SME?

Every day is different with new and exciting challenges whilst being involved in a revolutionary product which could change the way that energy is sourced from one of the earth's natural powers. All staff are directly involved with the projects which means that everyone feels that they directly contribute to the success of the company.

How do you relax at the end of the day?

Yacht racing, mountain biking or helping my son who is a keen optimist sailor develop and race.
