A typical day at work involves…
Working on both the short term issues and long term plans. Customers and site developers are looking ahead and we are already talking to some about what we might do in 2016 or 2017 and even further in the furture. Understanding what they want is critical, so that I can feed it back into the engineering team.
I learnt my trade by…
Running my own environmental finance and strategy consultancy, working at Shell & McKinsey and being pathologically curious about the changing world. I am finding that the work that I have done in the past on solar PV, wind and hydro very helpful; especially the financing solutions that have been developed for these technologies over the years.
What's the best thing about working for SME?
Breaking new ground every day and making a contribution towards climate change mitigation. The tidal energy sector is going to be a core part of the UK, and the world's, low carbon solution. Whilst there are number of veterans in the industry it still feels to me today that we are in at the start. There is no proven model yet, but I feel that we have a real solution which I want to be part of.
How do you relax at the end of the day?
This is a bit sad but I have an hour on the ferry every evening and so I use that as catch up time. I also like to read about what is happening across the low carbon sector, so ipad reading after supper tends to be the way I finish off the day.
